Music Artist - Metro's Own

Today's selection is METRO'S OWN from MD, VA and DC. I came across his music when he placed his music on one of my networking pages. I'm not quite sure if he realized that I'd possibly write about him or not. However, we've sent a few e-mails back and forth and I've been able to get some information about Metro's Own and Nightlife Soundz.

Metro's Own is originally from VA and currently resides in D.C. and is one of the very few Portuguese rappers. He started in 1988 as an artist, but never took it too seriously. Choosing drugs and the street life was were he felt he belonged at time, which ended up with him spending time in multiple prisons. His music and writing style reflects his past and the trials and tribulations that he's been through. He focus is writing music that others can relate to that have been or are in the same situations that he has lived through and seen throughout his life.

He's been out of prison since 2004 and has been recording ever since. With close to 700 tracks completed and collaborations with over 77 artists, I'm sure you'll hear his music in the near future. You can find him here...

When opening my page that he posted his music, it definitely caught my attention. I appreciated the flow, beats and rhythm that was on the tracks. I personally can't relate with most of the lyrics, however they were put together nicely. I chose to turn my music player off on my page and allow his music to light up the page when others came to visit. I wasn't impressed when I went to his myspace page. I felt when he wrote to me that he was trying to promote good (even with the negative that he had been through), yet his main profile picture was of a gun barrel pointed at you! Yes, I'm aware of the street game and how it works, but is it necessary to use this as a picture to promote your music? I'm sure his music would sell without that type of promotion and I hope that he considers this for future pictures. To keep it "real" as he is, children are on the streets, they do listen to music and pick things up that possibly we won't know about. It's our responsibility in a whole to help raise our next generation to be better than we are and to stay out of the prison systems.

Thank you Metro's Own for your music and allowing me to write a piece on you! Here are shot out's from Metro's Own...
